Effective October 27, 2026. Version 2026-10-27.
Terms and Conditions
These terms apply to OpenMuni's resident signup, accounts, and research services.
Who can sign up
Resident signup is available to people aged 18 or older who live in Cambridge or Boston, Massachusetts. Provide your own first and last name, a residential address, and an email address you control. Confirm that your address and the other information you provide are factual and accurate. Public information remains available without a resident account.
Eligibility is checked automatically against public address records during signup, before a new login is created. Signing in to an existing account does not repeat residency checks. An address match checks the address; it does not prove who lives there. Incomplete, unmatched, duplicate, or otherwise flagged applications cannot proceed until the automatic checks pass. There is no human residency approval step.
Your account and use of the service
Keep your sign-in credentials secure and update your information when it changes. Do not impersonate someone else, submit an address where you do not live, create accounts to evade limits, attempt to access another person's information, or interfere with the service. Access may be paused when an account fails eligibility checks or is used to bypass these protections.
The initial resident research allowance is up to three requests and $0.12 in total inference costs over 30 days, subject to available capacity. Your account shows its current allowance and expiry. Correcting an address, retrying signup, or deleting and recreating an account does not reset earlier usage. Research may pause when service-wide capacity or spending limits are reached. Signup does not purchase a subscription or authorize a charge.
Public information and research answers
OpenMuni is an independent service, not the City of Cambridge or the City of Boston. Public data can be delayed or incomplete. Research answers can contain mistakes. Check cited official sources and contact the relevant city department for authoritative information or action. OpenMuni is not an emergency service.
Privacy, deletion, and changes
The Privacy Policy explains the collection, use, and retention of account information. You can request account deletion through your account controls. Some security, spending, and backup records remain for the periods described in that policy.
Future changes to these terms will have a new version and effective date. Contact hello@muni.fyi with questions about your account or these terms.
